How I Lived My Life with CF

All in the family

Cystic fibrosis (CF). I have been living with this disease from birth. It affects my life so much and hurts me. I was told it was a family illness which has been staying in our family for quite a long time. My dad's father had the same disease from birth. I was the next in line to be diagnosed with CF.

My parents were afraid when I got diagnosed with CF. They were terrified when the news broke out that I am a CF patient, they got nervous and were confused on what to do, but were a bit confident because my dad's father was diagnosed of CF also.

Finding what worked

They tried all they could by giving me some medication like the mucus-thinners. Medicines like dornase alfa (Pulmozyme®) helped thin mucus, making it easier for me to cough out.
Other medications that helped me out were: Kalydeco (ivacaftor), Trikafta (ivacaftor, tezacaftor, and elexacaftor),
Pulmozyme (dornase alfa), Hypertonic saline solution, and Secretolytic.

Silver linings

Life itself has taught me to keep fighting to survive and never quit. I have no friends around me since all my friends were afraid of me. Sometimes they yelled at me and I got bullied too. It was so bad.

I grew up still living with CF and got married as life was favorable to me. I got kids also, but they were free from CF. Hoping to stay and live a happier life.
